The VBKÖ has selected this unlauded orifice to be the radiant center of their latest show. Praising the anus' erogenous powers, the curators claim humanity's shared possession of the rear aperture signals its power to challenge existing gender-bound conventions and identity blueprints.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the declaration on human rights, the Vienna based Schikaneder and Top Cinema will be hosting the first International Human Rights Film Festival in Austria: this human world

Outstanding and remarkable current productions on the issue of Human Rights as well as Austrian premieres of award-winning international films will be shown during 10 days.

this human acts as an independent film festival that tends not to ignore any of film genres dealing with human rights, but rather to select the exceptional and late-breaking artworks. Henceforward this human world will be held every year to promote education on human rights issues through the medium film. The festival intends to reinforce the attention and sensibility of the Austrian public for contemporary films on these explosive and problematic topics. From today's educational and political perspective the confrontation with human rights in film embedded in a yearly film festival is a necessary enrichment for a city like Vienna, where artists, intellectuals, and many others are mingling.

To date Austria has been lacking a film festival that deals with the globally discussed topic of human rights in the form of an annual international film festival, and its respective discussion in the media.

The inauguration of this human world will take place on December 2, 2008 at the Vienna Filmcasino.

Danish artist Olafur Eliasson has graced the city of Vienna with a public installation, Yellow Fog. First shown in New York in 1998, Yellow Fog was brought to Vienna via the Verbund Collection, a corporate contemporary art collection in the heart of Vienna.

The piece is permanently installed along the Verbund building's 48 meter facade, where it can be viewed at dusk and into the night. The piece, which consists of 32 fluorescent tubes embedded in the pavement, creates a yellow light and fog that rises upwards, covering the building in a veil for one hour. The fog itself serves as a projection surface for the light to cast its effect.

Creating a dialogue between passers-by and spacial surroundings, the piece invites viewers to consider daily rhythms and architectural impacts.

The legendary Mäuse describe their musical style as "electroclash" but we swear that Gerhard Potuznik and Tex Rubinowitz are direct descendants of Hans Arp. Mäuse are the true heirs of Dadaism, with flights into explosive absurdity and tongue-in-cheek pathos underlined with synthie pop. After a long period of silence (and what loud silence that was), the Mäuse are back and bigger and better. Along for this joy ride are Philipp Quehenberger on synths and Didi Kern on percussions. A mice quartet? Yeah!

The October is the official European Month of Photography, so the people at Westlicht do what they do best: curating a damn good photo exhibition. This time they show the work of Andreas H. Bitesnich, a Viennese and regarded as one of the best nude photographers in the world. His works are characterized by careful lighting, unique composition and a remarkable positioning of the subjects. By transforming physical forms and profiles in kinetic compositions he opens up for the viewer a completely unusual and surprising way of seeing. The exhibition includes 70 photographs from Bitesnich's new book "More Nudes". But don't get it wrong: Bitesnich's work is more about graphical-sculptural composition than lame eroticism.

Nach dem erzwungen Exitus der Wildplakate bzw. deren erzwungenen Exodus auf die schicken Halbschalen (zum dreifachen Preis), werden neuerdings von der Gewista-Tocher "Kulturplakat" auch die Plakatflächen auf den Stromkästen verwaltet (Hätte deren Beklebung durch Plakate nicht von den Halbschalen ursprünglich verhindert werden sollen?!).

Montags präsentierte der Verein "Freie Plakat" und die IG Kultur Wien eine Forderung nach leistbaren wie kostenlosen Plakatflächen, auf denen die Ankündigungsplakate weder von konkurrierenden Wildplakatierern noch von "Plakatieren Verboten"-Hinweisen der Gewista-Kulturplakatfirma überklebt werden dürfen. Sprich: endlich mal hängen bleiben dürfen....

V'08 gets off with a booming, high-profile start at the Viennale Zentrale, the festival's party central.

Regardless of what you may or may not have heard about the infamous "Bristol Sound" over the years, either in the press, from friends or on vinyl, one thing is certain: the sound did not originate from the likes of Massive Attack or Portishead. In fact, it is tonight's DJ Rob Smith with his partner Ray Mighty who can rightly pronounce the Bristol throne as their own.

Unfortunately, they were a bit too laid back for their own good to have gained any real commercial success while their descendants charted worldwide. So after playing Drum'n Bass for some time with the More Rockers Crew, Rob Smith did what everyone with profound love for echoes and delays should be doing nowadays: he started producing dubstep, with the emphasis on dub. So don't wear your turtleneck tonight: it could get a bit sweaty.

Ridley Scott's futuristic film, Blade Runner (1982), is the ultimate example of the curated series it is included in, Design Dystopias. In 2019, humans have genetically engineered "replicants," which are essentially humans who are designed for labor and entertainment purposes. Illegal on earth, the robots live in colonies in outer-space, and if ever found on land they are hunted down and killed.

Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is a blade runner, or a hunter of replicants, who must seek out a group of replicants who have traveled to Los Angeles in search of a way to extend their lifespan. Although he hunts them to the end, the replicants ultimately end up teaching the detached Deckard important truths of humanity.

Everybody loves birthdays, especially when they're not called "b-day bashes." And it's hard to believe that it's already been 2 years since Matt Modny gave birth to that neon-colored, glow-sticks loving little bastard known as Myyy Bitch Club. So many memories of past times, like when we thought allover-print hoodies were the shit and that the Badeschiff was the new cool place to be. Now, two years later, we look back on some über-awesome nights with Krazy Baldhead, Futurecop or those two girls from Super Super magazine. But we also look forward to a new monthly at Fluc, to Russ Chimes and his catchy '80s synths and to more parties with Pinnie and Matty. Myyy Bitch Club! Myyy Bitch Club! Party time! Excellent!

The political satire group, maschek., are finally back in Vienna with their puppetry and dubbed television clips. Guerrilla media--or whatever you want to call it--doesn't get much better than this. Who can refuse clips of politicians "talking" crap about their colleagues or their sex lives? For ten years now they have told the real story behind the Staatsvertragsunterzeichnung or what happens at the chancellor's home. So please get rid of your remote control, even if it's just for one night. This may also be the best excuse you have to check out the freshly restored Rabenhof Theater in its proletariat Art Deco glory.

Daniel Eberharter displays evocative pic of bands and performers like Kreisky, The Gossip, Pungent Stench, Shellac, 8 Hours Manatee, Tocotronic, DJ Buzz, Beatsteaks and Paper Bird, with a few non-bands thrown in for excitement.

Drawing on references as diverse as the folkloric rites of maypole ceremonies and the exploration of surrogate skin, Lang has created a series of installations, objects and possibilities that integrate an intimate knowledge of the human form with the personal mythologies and abstract arrangements of the world at large.

You don't necesserily have to go to Loos Bar but, in a way, this place provides the perfect ambience for accessing Boubou Lang's works.

Highly provocative, sexually graphic lyrics? Check. Aggressive stage show by para-post/punk duo? Check. Banned from various British venues because of a series of controversial destructive stunts, including sabotaging Snow Patrol's equipment? Check. Named the 40th most important British band in a Guardian article? Check. Scored 18 out of 20 attitude points but only 11 for sound in the same article? Check. Thrown horse manure at Pete Doherty? Check again. Sounds awesome? Yes, indeed.

After French street art über-dude Space Invader already invaded Vienna with his mosaic hommage to arcade games back in 2006, it was logical to let him design a part of the MQ and give him his own exhibition in the newly launched Street Art Passage. We will see what the curator and Subotrons own Jogi Neufeld, in close cooperation with 401Rush, has planned for the next months and how a place for street art offside the street will work out.

This morning we read in the newspaper that shooting for the Romy Schneider bio-pic has started. I guess it's pretty safe to say that this film will suck big time. With German soap opera starlet Yvonne Catterfeld in the title role as the divine Austrian actress, it is destined to be an epic failure. File under: when a tribute goes wrong. But thanks to Austrian Film Archive, you have the chance to watch Schneider's entire filmography again on the big screen. Skip the Sissi trilogy and watch her French films like Une histoire simple or the crime-thriller Max et les ferrailleurs with Michel Piccoli.
