"Che Guevara has become T-shirt shorthand for counterculture -- most people in a Che T are oblivious to who he really was and are just celebrating the rebel in us all. In reality, Che went from being a doctor to a murderer in a wrongheaded, desperate attempt to change the world. The Communist Revolution he believed in didn't work -- and were he alive today, he would have to face that fact. Knowing that, the question is: Who would Che wear on his T-shirt? Who and what would (or could) he put his faith in?"

Milton Glaser

I Love New York, 1977.

"In the popular mind (though this was not the original intention) the logo has become closely associated with New York City, and the placement of the logo on plain white T-shirts readily sold in the city has widely circulated the appearance of the image, making it a commonly recognized symbol. The symbol is the logo of the New York Heart Foundation."

As Piers pointed out earlier, the internet does not forget. If your information is being broadcast to everyone, you should at least control the content to the best of your ability. And with Squidder's new Twitter Feed augmented reality T-Shirt, you can become a walking beacon for whatever you twit about. No longer just for your internet buddies, the shirt lets your thoughts pop out into the real world.

Printed on the front of the shirt is a kind of bar-code that contains your Twitter user name. When an appropriate sensing device (phone, laptop) is pointed at it, your latest Twitter update will virtually appear. Watch this concept technology in action in the video below, and check out Squidder blog for more next level augmented reality experiments.

Fuwa Olympic Mascot Parody
Olympic mascot cartoons - stereotypes, unknown artist, photographed by anArchitecture: 1. Nini as a bored waitress, 2. Jingjing as a drunken gambler with the popular belly-showing T-shirt, 3. Yingying as a nonpolitical future-believing youngster enjoying sweets, 4. Huanhuan as an alert security guard with his tea-tank, 5. Beibei as a busy cleaning lady protecting herself from pollution

While wandering through urban China I got the impression something is missing. But what is it? Everything is here: shopping malls, traffic-jams, tourist features, roadside billboards, etc. except - scribblings on walls.

There might be no distinctive street culture like in Berlin or New York, however, the nearly complete absence of graffiti, stickers, stencils and scribbling is astonishing. Few graffiti spots are usually either in art districts like the Factory 798 in Beijing and Moganshan Road in Shanghai or places out of the public domain (see a video about Chinese graffiti on youTube). Probably not surprising in a country where it is virtually impossible to express oneself freely in the media.

So it is all the more surprising that these ironic cartoon-stickers of the of the Beijing "fuwa" mascots could have been produced - especially immediately prior the 2008 Olympics. But do you dare to attach them in the Chinese public realm?

Versklavt vom Arbeitsspeicher,
hockst du in deiner Butze,
